As governments’ interest and investment in financial technology (fintech) solutions are accelerating, public authorities are increasingly looking to champion their fintech industries and encourage fintech solutions. This event brings together those officials charged with encouraging fintech growth and implementing fintech solutions for governments.

Organised by Global Government Fintech, the Lab will focus on some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities for public officials. It will open with a keynote speech from the Estonian government’s chief information officer Luukas-Kristjan Ilves. Further confirmed speakers include the Irish Dept of Finance’s international financial services unit head Karen Cullen; European Fintech Association board member Taavi Tamkivi; and Estonia’s Financial Supervisory Authority head of innovation Mari-Liis Kukk.

The key topics for discussion are:

Where are the big opportunities for fintech solutions to help governments and public authorities? How can government departments / public authorities ‘get organised’ to fully understand and invest in fintech solutions?
How can fintech solutions help governments tackle fraud, error and debt, and also payments to/from government?
How could central bank digital currencies help deliver public good?
How can public authorities best spur private-sector fintech growth?
